My brain is done and my hateful allergies stuffing up my head are only serving to further fry the few remaining operable brain cells. Fuuuuuck. There is so much going on right now that I really need to take a xanax, smoke a bowl, drink a beer, or fuck my brains out to let out a little of the pressure. However, my current condition means that the first three are prohibited and the last one just doesn't sound like very much fun. I'll have to make due with blogging for the moment I suppose. Dammit.
First of all, Chicken is attending a new school this year. The middle school he was attending failed miserably in a number of areas in my opinion and I was not sending him back to that place. I found a new charter school locally that seems to fit perfectly with my wants and Chicken's needs. Maximum enrollment is 150 students 6th-8th grade and class size is less than or equal to 25 students. The interior of the building is not completed, therefore yesterday class began at a local park. The students took a field trip to the library, parents and students had a potluck lunch, and everyone got acquainted with each other. Not a big deal if you are a normal human being and like other people. For me, it was a stretch but I am proud to say that I socialized all day and mostly did not make an ass out of myself. Chicken had a blast and is looking forward to the first real day of school on September 2nd. He has an independent study contract to work on until then and is not appreciating the workload. I think it is good for him.
Next, we are buying a house. We've completed negotiations and are waiting for the underwriters to find new and unusual ways to ass fuck us. We are expecting to close escrow by mid September. In the meantime, we have a few home improvement projects to worry about. Namely, the issue of doorknobs. Oh, and carpet and paint and grass. Maybe bushes? Epoxy the garage floor. Replace a door and closet doors. Find a gas dryer as ours is electric. Perhaps a microwave? GAH. The list manageable but daunting, and my concerns are petty but pressing. For example: how do I choose a color to paint my bedroom when in the near future we are buying a bigger bed and therefore a new duvet cover? I don't want to be completely neutral and boring but I don't want to repaint in a year or less. How does one figure this out?
Then comes the carpet and the hard floors. We want carpet in the bedrooms and hard flooring in the living room. The dining, kitchen, and baths are all nicely tiled. I have no clue about flooring. None. Not a fucking clue if you paid me to find one. I don't know what is good, bad, or indifferent. I am hoping that Teddy Bear can field this one and I can play the girl part and say, "Oh that's pretty or ugly or blah."
Then I started looking at paint for Egg's room. Chicken can pick his own paint, but I am fairly sure the baby is screwed out of an opinion at this point. I drew a complete fucking blank. The colors started to swirl and I just wanted to wait until much later to even think about the decision. Teddy Bear filled my arms with brochures and samples and I staggered to the car. Guess what I found?
How fucking cute is that? Now, I'm not married to Baby Einstein or Pooh Bear but the butter yellow, soft blue, and brown have me swooning. The picture isn't the best so you'll just have to imagine the gloriousness of it all. Please tell me everything will fall into place as easily as this. Please? Because being knocked up, a new school for Chicken, buying a house, moving, and putting a fuckton of work into the new house seems like a lot of work. Can't I just bake cookies naked and call it a day?

Jeebus woman... I'm freaking out over my kids just starting a new school (and you did good on the park thing - I totally suck at social things.) But, to add on a new house and moving as well as being pregnant - dang - you deserve a drink/xanax/bowl. I'm not pregnant, I can I do one of the above for you?
Love the blue/butter/brown. LOVE it. We got really nice pergo awhile back and LOVE IT! Great with little kids - cleans up in a snap and doesn't dent when shit is banged or scraped on it as small children tend to do. Spills (and vomit - from me being hungover clearly) super easy to clean up, etc. We got a wide boarded really really pretty color. (not the Walmart/Sams club colors, but nice pergo from a flooring store.)
Umm, a moment. The word picture of baking cookies nekkid has me distracted. Oh, what the heck - what kind of cookies are you baking??
About the colors? Ask your mom, or your neighbor's mom. Go to an old folks home and pick someone's mom up for the day. Pick someone that doesn't dress funny, that you like the colors they choose. And talk about colors. Just like the Disney/Pooh photo, when you think about it, you will find that you do have preferences.
Think about your cosmetics 'colors' - are you a summer / earth tones person, or do you relax and get creative on acid green with hunter orange diagonal stripes? Does puce, with purple and lavender trim, energize your day? Or is there a reason the words puce and puke are so close?
Generally you will want blander room colors in the hues you enjoy - do negotiate with TB to avoid anything that either of you dislike.
Get a used wood doll house, and practice painting - get quarts or half-pints mixed, and do keep the mix recipes for later. Do stick to acrylic paints to manage intense fumes, plenty of fresh air when painting, yada, yada, yada.
Plan on hiring one or two moving people to shift boxes, etc. on moving day. Friends are great, but there are skills in everything, and the U-Haul store or other mover may be able to recommend a couple of experienced moving helpers that can seriously de-tense the effort. Another place to try might be Starving Students if there is a branch near you.
You might want to think of a couple of other alternatives to your 'release pressure' choices - such as an easy walk in a pleasant place, preferably with plenty of benches and clean rest rooms. Or a cup of herbal tea and a pleasant few moments with a favored novel, or new book by a favored author. A quick few Yoga asanas, a few minutes with some 3 pound and 5 pound hand weights, some breathing exercises (nourish those remaining brain cells!), a few minutes of meditation.
A 20-minute 'power' nap - this can be really great when you need to rebalance emotions and hormones. A wonderful way to break up a 'mood'.
And roughage, for the allergies. During a mucous episode, you need more fiber, and more water. And saline nasal mist. Frequent saline nasal mist. lol!
Take care!
Whew, not doing too much are you?? As for the bedroom, get the new duvet cover now and then paint the room for it.
Just a thought.
Well, Sam, finally you are asking
for something that I actually do
know about. Although you didn't mention granite, and that was our
original business, we then branched
out to full kitchens, styling washrooms, and finally, of course,
into housing.
As far as the duvet and bedding goes Sam, regardless of the size of your bed, just choose one and
paint to go with it,or paint first
and choose the duvet cover after
(thinking of size changes) Simple, right ? right ??
I just aced a master bedroom, who
had to have the robin's egg blue
and chocolate brown that has become so popular. I always believe in having a thread of one
original colour even if it's just
pillows tying in to the foyer
or entranceway./living room area.. Continuity is good,
although nowadays, I've seen so
much that there seems to be no
rules.
If you have specific questions as
you go along, I would be happy to
help - regarding the flooring, there are so many nowadays including bamboo, which has become popular and is warm to your feeties and reasonably priced.
Even though we are in Canada, we do import many things from the U.S. of A. (we dropped
China after having an office there
for 2 years)
Don't go for designer paint - i.e.
Ralph Lauren is actually Behr, (Home Depot)
(I found that one out from a sales
rep. (same for the Disney colours)
Bastards. lol.
Congratulations - it's a whole lot
at once, though, and I'd be happy
to give you a (supposedly educated) haha, opinion on anything.
After l32 complete houses now and thousands of granite projects, I think I can, I think I can.
naked baking sounds like a great
alternative, btw.

P.S. Don't be afraid of colour,
unless of course, you are thinking
of buying and selling(doesn't sound like it, but it often
happens - then, the more neutral
the better, sadly. Paint is the
least expensive way to change a home, although l00 percent, prep work beforehand is an integral
part of the project.
In my own home this summer,
we put in new heated slate floors, and
hardwood, a glass block wall with
granite (I love it) new windows,
new roof, and repainted it ALL, new garage doors, added a second
level of decking.
Oh yes, I forgot, I had
a baby too, hehe, just kidding.
See, I said email me and then
wrote you a novel. Oh well..:)
this is serious business!
All I can say is CONGRATS (and gooooood luck!)
OMG.
it's like your life is a snow globe, and someone just shook the shit out of it.
hold on, Sam! it will all be ok! in a few months......hopefully......
one day at a time.
i too desire to bake in the nude and call it a day. my life is lacking in this regard.
